Montagna

The white grape variety is a new breed between Rieslaner x Müller-Thurgau, which was confirmed by DNA analyses carried out in 2013. Synonyms and breeding-number are Paolina, WU B 51-4-5 and Würzburg B 51-4-5. By the way, the new varieties Albalonga and Fontanara were created with the same parents. The crossing was done in 1951 by Dr. Hans Breider (1908-2000) at the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture in Würzburg. According to DNA analyses, Motagna is identical with the Paolina variety grown in Italy (personal information from Dr. Erika Maul, JKI). In 2016, no stocks were reported under the name Montagna (statistics Kym Anderson).
