DOC area for white wine and red wine in the Italian region of Umbria. The zone includes the entire eponymous municipality of Montefalco, as well as parts of the municipalities of Bevagna, Castel Ritaldi, Giano dell'Umbria and Gualdo Cattaneo in the province of Perugia. The Bianco is made from Grechetto = Grechetto di Orvieto (50%), Trebbiano Toscano (20-35%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 30%). The Rosso (also as Riserva) is blended from Sangiovese (60-70%), Sagrantino (10-15%), as well as other approved varieties (max. 30%). The pure variety Montefalco Sagrantino received the DOCG classification in 1993.
