The earlier too Yugoslavia and now part of Serbia-Montenegro became a separate state in 2006 through referendum. The Montenegrin country name Crna Gora (Serbian) means "Black Mountain" and refers to the mountainous country, from which the name Montenegro derives. The small state on the Adriatic Sea covers almost 14,000 square kilometers and borders Albania. Bosnia Herzegovina. Croatia and Serbia, The main vineyards are on terraced South slopes on the shore of Skutari Lake. Important white wines are Krstac, Smederevka ( Dimyat ), Ugni Blanc ( Trebbiano Toscano ) and Župljanka, important red wines Vranac, Kratošija ( Tribidrag ) Kadarun and Zizak, as well as the international ones Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Noir ( Garnacha Tinta ) and Carignan Noir ( mazuelo ). In 2012, the vineyard covered 9,000 ha, of which 174,000 hl of wine were produced. A big producer at the capital Podgorica is named after the national holiday July 13th with the known brand wine "Crnogorsko Vranac".
