Monticello (grape variety)

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between USDA 4606-5 (Fredonia x Niagara White) x Virginia 5-32 (Fredonia x Athens). Synonyms or breeding numbers are Virginia 31 and VPI 31. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in the USA by the breeder G. D. Oberle. It produces fruity wines with a mild foxy and is also used as table grape. No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
