Moravia Agria

The red grape variety originates from Spain. Synonyms are Maravia Agria, Moravia, Moravia Negra and Moravio. Its parentage is unknown. It should not be confused with the Bobal or Marufo (Moravia Dulce) varieties, despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities. The late-maturing, low-yielding vine is susceptible to fungal diseases. It produces light-coloured, fruity red wines with aromas of flowers, herbs and grasses. The variety is cultivated in the DO areas of Manchuela and Valdepeñas ( Castilla-La Mancha region). In 2016, 222 hectares of vineyards were designated with a strong downward trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
