DOCG area for red wine in the Maremma landscape in the Italian region of Tuscany. It was highly classified in 2006. The zone includes the hills between the Ombrone and Albegna rivers with the municipality of Scansano, as well as parts of Campagnatico, Grosseto, Magliano in Toscana, Manciano, Roccalbegna and Semproniano in the province of Grosseto. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna can be indicated followed by the vineyard name. The wine is made from Morellino = Sangiovese (max. 85%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 15%). The alcohol content must be at least 12.5% vol. With 26 months of maturation, of which at least 12 in wooden barrels, and 13% alcohol by volume, it may call itself Riserva.
