Moscato di Terracina (grape variety)

The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Moscatel de Teracina, Moscato di Maccarese, Muscat de Terasina, Muscat de Terracina and Muscat Teracino. It must not be confused with Muscat d'Alexandrie, despite morphological similarities. The parentage is unknown. The early-ripening vine is susceptible to fungal diseases. It yields fragrant white wines with moderate acidity and aromas of roses, apricots and exotic fruits. The variety is mainly cultivated in the Lazio region, where it is permitted in the DOC wine of the same name, Moscato di Terracina, among others. The area under cultivation in 2016 was 22 hectares with an extremely strong downward trend (Kym Anderson).
