Mourvaison

The red grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Marvaison, Mouenc, Mourvedoum, Mourvedoun, Mourveson, Mourvesoum, Mourvezon, Negrau, Négrette and Raisin des Maures. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it comes from a presumably natural cross between Paugayen x Aubun. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). It should not be confused with the varieties Négret Castrais, Négrette or Négrette de Nice due to seemingly indicative synonyms or morphological similarities. In 2016, three hectares of vines were identified in the Var area (Provence) (Kym Anderson statistics).
