Muscat Dr Hogg

The white grape variety originates from England. Synonyms are Docteur Hogg, Dr. Hogg Muscat, Dr. Hoggs Muscat, Muscat, Muscat Docteur Hogg, Muscat Dr. Hogg, Muscat du Docteur Robert Hogg, Muscat Hogg and Muscat Dr. Robert Hoog. The origin or parentage is not known. The crossing or selection took place in 1869 in England by the breeder J. Pearson. It was named in honour of the British botanist Robert Hogg (1818-1897). The vine produces aromatic, fruity white wines. It is also used as table grape. The variety is grown in Brazil (671 ha), New Zealand (36 ha), Switzerland (7 ha), Serbia (14 ha) and Thailand (3 ha). In 2016, 744 hectares of vineyard area were designated (Kym Anderson).
