Muscat Rouge de Madère

The white grape variety originates from France. Synoyms are Busuioacă de Bohotin, Ferral Tinto, Halapsky Voniaci, Madeira Frontignan, Malvasia Krasnaja, Moscatel Rosso di Madeira, Moscato Rosso di Madeira, Moscato Violetto, Muscat de Madère, Muscat Frontignan, Muscat Rouge d'Madeira, Muscat Noir, Muscat Noir de Constance, Muscat Noir de Madère and Red Muscat. It must not be confused with the varieties Abrusco, Busuioacă de Bohotin, Muscat Rouge or Rose Muscat, despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2020, it originated from a presumably natural cross between Muscat Blanc x Sciaccarello (Mammolo). The variety was a crossing partner of the new varieties Muscat Bouschet and Noir Hatif de Marseille. It is used as a winepress and table grape. However, no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
