The white grape is a new breed between Chasselas x Muscat d'Eisenstadt ( Ingram's Muscat ). Synonyms include basil grape, Lorenzite grape, Muscat Basilicum, Muscat Blanc Saint Laurent, Muscat Hatif, Muscat Saint Laurent, Saint Laurent and Saint Laurent de Saumur. The crossing took place in 1854 in Angers (Maine-et-Loire, France ) at the institute Moreau-Robert by the breeder M. Robert (?). With the same parents is also the variety Muscat Ottonel emerged.
