Nativa

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Fratava x Merlan. The original name was Kaberon for a long time; synonyms are Na and L-3-10-34. It contains genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis berlandieri, Vitis labrusca, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in the Czech Republic by a team led by Vilém Kraus (1924-2013). Plant variety protection was granted in 2010. The new varieties Cerason, Kofranka, Laurot and Marlen were also created with the same parents. The late-maturing vine is quite resistant to botrytis and both powdery mildews. It yields ruby-coloured, tannic and acidic red wines with aromas of spices and sour cherries. The variety is grown in Moravia, but no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
