Near

The growing area in the state Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany is named after the river of the same name. The vineyards cover a total of 4,163 hectares of vineyards. There are many preserved testimonies of the Romans who already cultivated wine here. Near Bingen founded the Benedictine abbess and alternative practitioner Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) the monastery Rupertsberg. The Nahe becomes in its course from the Hunsrück to the mouth in the Rhine accompanied at Bingen by vineyards. The soils consist of quartzite and schist at the lower Nahe, porphyry, melaphyr and Buntsandstein at the middle Nahe as well as weathered soils, sandstone, loess and loam near Bad Kreuznach.

Map of the growing area Nahe

The Nahe Wine Route runs from Bingen in a large loop up the valley past Bad Kreuznach through all the wine villages, then west to Martinstein and through the rose garden back to Bingen. Until 1993 there were the two areas Bad Kreuznach and Schloßböckelheim. Then there was a summary of the now only area Nahetal . The Nahe wine combines the advantages of fruity, racy Rhine wine with sparkling Mosel wine. Mild temperatures and a lot of sunshine create an excellent climate for the white wine varieties that dominate with 75% of the vineyard area. In the last ten years, the variety level has changed relatively strongly. For example, the proportion of red wines has increased from 17% to 25%, which is the national trend. It leads to the near at the end of the 19th century introduced Riesling with over a quarter of the vineyard. The biggest climbers are the varieties Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The biggest losers are the varieties Müller-Thurgau (minus 30%), Scheurebe, Kerner and Bacchus, as well as other white German new varieties, The grape variety status 2009 (0 = less than 0.5 hectares):
