Negrara Trentina

The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Barthäuser, Cabonera, Doleana, Doleara, Doveana, Dovenzana, Edelschwarze, Keltertraube, Negrara, Negrara del Lago, Negrara Trentino, Negrera, Negrera di Gattinara, Salzen, Schwarzhottler, Terodola, Zottelwälsche and Zoveana. It was mentioned in 1818 by the biologist Ciro Pollini (1782-1833). Despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities, it should not be confused with the Negrara Veronese or Teroldego varieties. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2006, there is a parent-offspring relationship with the variety Enantio. The medium to late ripening vine is very susceptible to botrytis and powdery mildew. Until the phylloxera disaster, it was cultivated throughout the Adige Valley (Valdadige) in Trentino. It is now only grown in small quantities traditionally on pergolas. No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
