According to the information in the breeding list, the red grape variety is a new breed between Negru Virtos x Saperavi. With the same parents the new variety Novac was created (ex VIVC catalogue). However, according to DNA analyses carried out in 2009, the father variety could be Băbească Neagră (ex Wine Grapes). The cross was made in Romania in 1993 by the breeders Marculescu Mircea and Vladasel Mircea. The medium maturing vine is moderately susceptible to fungal diseases. It produces full-bodied, spicy red wines with soft tannins and aromas of dark berries. In 2016, 18 hectares of vineyards were designated in Romania (statistics Kym Anderson).
