The red grape variety comes from Italy, Synonyms are Neiret, Neret, Neretto and Neyret. However, the first three are also common for many other independent grape varieties, so that confusion is common (see below Neretto ). According to in 2010 DNA analysis stems from a presumably natural cross Mayolet x Roussin, Dr. José Vouillamoz came to a different conclusion in 2011, according to his analysis there is one Parent-offspring relationship between Neret di Saint-Vincent and Rouge du Pays,
The variety is in aosta Valley approved in the DOC wines Arnad-Montjovet, Donnas, Enfer d'Arvier and Torrette. It is mainly used as a blending partner to add color and alcohol. In 2010, 41 hectares of vineyards were designated under the name Neyret (Kym Anderson ).
