Nerkarat

The red grape variety (also Nerkarata, Norakert) is an interspecific new variety between Seyanets C 1262 (Vitis Amurensis Ruprecht x Csaba Gyöngye) x Karmrahyut. It contains genes from Vitis amurensis and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1960 in Armenia by S. A. Pogosyan. Incidentally, the same parents also produced the new variety Charentsi. The vine is resistant to frost down to minus 28 °Celsius. The sugar-rich grapes make it particularly suitable for the production of dessert wines. It is cultivated in small quantities in the north-eastern province of Tavush. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
