The New Zealand winery in the Nelson area (South Island) was founded in 1978 by Tim and Judy Finn. It was named after a small village founded in 1842 by German settlers. The vineyards with 40 hectares of vineyards are planted with the varieties Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The winery is one of the elite of boutique wineries in New Zealand
, The Burgundy-style Chardonnay Moutere and Pinot Noir Moutere, as well as Riesling Brightwater and Sauvignon Blanc Nelson are among New Zealand's top products. The Chardonnay Nelson was served in 2003 at the premiere of the movie "Lord of the Rings" in Wellington. Tim Finn was voted "Winemaker of the Year" in 2003 by the largest Australian wine magazine "Winestate Magazine".
