Nevada

The US state with the capital Carson City is located in the west of the USA. It is best known for Area 51 (a top-secret military test site with alleged alien corpses), the atomic bomb tests with more than 1,000 nuclear explosions since 1951 and Las Vegas. Viticulture has only been practised here for a relatively short time. There is no AVA other than the State Appellation. The most important red wine varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Frontenac and Zinfandel, the most important white wine varieties Riesling, Gewurztraminer (sp iced traminer) and La Crosse. Well-known producers are Churchill Vineyard, Pahrump Valley Winery, Sanders Family Winery and Tahoe Ridge Winery.

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
