This red grape variety is a new cross between Merlot x Barbera. Synonyms are Cosmo 96 and Incrocio Cosmo 96. The cross was made in the 1960s in Italy by the breeder Italo Cosmo at the Institute in Conegliano. Incidentally, the same parents also produced the new variety Prodest. It is cultivated in Veneto in the province of Treviso. In 2016, 1.1 hectares of vineyards were designated (statistics Kym Anderson).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
