Niklaserhof

The winery is located in the district of St. Nikolaus above Kaltern at the foot of the Mendelgebirge mountains in the Italian wine-growing region of South Tyrol (Trentino-South Tyrol). In its present form it was founded in 1992 by the agricultural engineer Josef Sölva and his wife Johanna, whose families, rich in tradition, have been connected with viticulture for several generations. One year later the newly built wooden barrel cellar was put into operation, since then the wines are marketed by the winery itself. Son Dieter is responsible for the cellar. The vineyards cover 5.5 hectares of vines in the locations Barleit, Galgenwiese, Kardatsch, Lavardi, Muttergarten, Putznai, Salt and Vial. They are planted with the white wine varieties Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Kerner as well as the red wine varieties Vernatsch, Lagrein, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine-growing is consistently carried out in close contact with nature. The product range includes various wines from the DOC areas of Lake Caldaro and South Tyrol. Around 50,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. About 25% are exported to Germany, England, the Netherlands, USA and Japan. In our own distillery we also produce fine spirits (wine, grape marc, fruit). The winery is a founding member of the Free Winegrowers of South Tyrol.
