The winery is located in the municipality of Gols (Untere Hauptstraße 49) in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria). The foundation stone was laid centuries ago by the ancestors of the traditional winegrowing family. The winery has been run by Anita and Hans "John" Nittnaus since 1985. The vineyards cover a total of 36 hectares, of which 18 hectares are in Gols and the surrounding area ( Altenberg, Heideboden, Kurzberg and Ungerberg vineyards) and 18 hectares are in the Leithaberg wine-growing region, mostly in the municipality of Jois. They are 90% planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch (lead variety), Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Merlot, and 10% with the white wine varieties Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner and Furmint.

Nittnaus Anita & Hans - Weingarten Leithaberg

Since 2007, certified biodynamic viticulture has been practised according to the rules of the respekt-BIODYN association. This means, among other things, cover crop between the rows of vines and compost build-up, as well as complete renunciation of artificial fertilisers and synthetic pesticides. Only physiologically ripe grapes are processed through selective manual harvesting. In connection with particularly favourable climatic conditions, such as the proximity of the climate-regulating Lake Neusiedl, as well as the soil composition, these are optimal conditions for terroir-typical wines with pronounced minerality.

In principle, spontaneous fermentation takes place using the vineyard's own yeasts without the use of pure yeasts. In the cellar, no fining or other agents are added. The absolute premium wines of the house are the red wine cuvée "Comondor" (Merlot, Blaufränkisch) as well as the Leithaberg top vineyard wines "Jungenberg" and "Gritschenberg" (Blaufränkisch), which are aged for 18 to 22 months in 500-litre barrels. Other premium wines are "Pannobile" (Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch) and "Heideboden" (Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, Merlot), the Blaufränkisch wines "Altenberg" and "Lange Ohn", as well as the Leithaberg Chardonnays from the Freudshofer and Bergschmallister sites. In years with suitable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslese wines are also vinified. The winery is a member of Pannobile and respekt-BIODYN.
