Nouveau Salquenen

The winery "Adrian Mathier Nouveau Salquenen AG" is located in the municipality of Salquenen (Salgesch) in the Swiss canton of Valais. The company was founded by the viticulture inspector Ferdinand Mathier, whose family had been farming here since the 14th century. Nouveau Salquenen is now owned by the founder's grandson Adrian Mathier, whose three sons work on the farm. The vineyards cover 30 hectares of vines, with a further 120 hectares being purchased from contract winegrowers. All vineyards are managed according to the principles of integrated production. The large product range includes wines in six lines: La Tradition, Les Pyramides, Ligne de la famille Adrian Mathier, Les Ambassadeurs and Gemma.

Among the premium wines are the Dôle "Sang de l'Enfer" (Hell's Blood - after the vineyard "Hell"), the Pinot Noir "Lucifer" (which is also bottled in Magnum, Jeroboam and Methusalem bottles), the "Ambassadeur des Domaines Adrian Mathier" (Pinot Noir exclusively from the vineyard "Raspille"), the "Ambassadeur Fumé" (a white wine from Gros Rhin = Silvaner, aged in barriques and fermented on the mash), various cuvées from the traditional autochthonous Valais varieties, as well as pure products from Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The wines are regularly awarded high national and international prizes. For example, the Oeil de perdrix "La Matze" became world champion of rosé wines in 1986. Grape marc spirits and sparkling wines are also produced.
