nutty

nutty (GB)
goût de noix (F)
con aroma di noce (I)

Description for the smell and taste in the context of a wine evaluation or wine address. Such wines are characterised by a typical tone of walnuts or hazelnuts. This characteristic is often found in more mature wines made from Aligoté, Chardonnay, Chasselas, Frühroter Veltliner, Neuburger, certain Trebbiano varieties and Pinot Blanc.

nussig - Nuss geöffnet, Frühroter Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Chasselas

Furthermore, oxidatively matured wines such as Malaga, Port, Sherry and Vin Jaune show this typical tone. If it is more pronounced, it may be a wine defect (see ageing tone) and in extreme cases it manifests itself as an unpleasant rancid tone. Similar in taste to nutty are buttery and yeasty.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
