Ohanes

The white grape variety originates from Spain. Synonyms are Almeria, Almeria Ohanez di Spana, Almeriiski, Blanca Legitima, Casta de Ohanes, Casta de Ohanez, Ciminnisa, Ciminnita, Cipro Bianco, Embarque, Khaen, Oanes, Oanez, Oganes, Ohanez, Raisin de Almeria, Santa Paula, Uva Almeria, Uva Blanca Alicante, Uva del País and Valensi du Maroc. It originates from a presumably natural cross between Achladi x unknown partner. Whether there is a relationship with the red variety Imperial Napoleon (synonym Ohanes Negro) is not known. It is an all-female grape variety with striking olive-shaped berries. The variety is cultivated in many southern countries, where it is mainly used as table grape, but also as wine grape. The variety was a crossing partner for the two new varieties Calmeria and Nyora. It is grown as a wine grape in very small quantities on one hectare in the province of Zaragoza (Aragon). Under the name Valensi du Maroc, 15 hectares are planted with it in the Languedoc region in France. In 2016, 16 hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson).
