Oiseau Rouge

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Chasselas Rose (Chasselas Violet) x Vitis rupestris Scheele. Synonyms are Couderc 4401, Couderc 4401 A, Le Malafosse, Le Tank, Oazo Rukh, Sakhotin and Uazo Rukh. There are genes of Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera included. The hybrid was crossed in 1884 by the French scientist Georges Couderc (1850-1928). It was used at the end of the 19th century as a wine grape and as a rootstock in the fight against phylloxera, but is no longer of any significance today. The variety was a cross-breeding partner in the three new varieties Caperan, Olivar and Rescape. In 2016 no stocks were identified (Kym Anderson).
