Single location in the municipality of Walporzheim in the German growing region of Ahr. In 2017 the immediately adjacent Domlay site was abandoned and part of it was assigned to the Alte Lay site, the rest to the Himmelchen site. The south-southeast facing vineyards at an altitude of 110 to 250 metres above sea level with a slope gradient of 10 to 75% comprise nine hectares of vineyards. The soils consist of weathered slate with predominantly loamy greywacke and sandy loam on the plain. The appearance is characterised by a prominent rocky outcrop (lay). Here, mainlyPinot Noir (Spätburgunder), as well as Frühburgunder and Dornfelder are cultivated. The Adeneuer, Kreuzberg, Maibachfarm and Sonnenberg wineries, as well as the winegrowers of the Walporzheim wine manufactory, have a share in the site.
