Olgaberg

Hohentwiel is a 696-metre-high mountain northwest of Lake Constance in the south of Baden-Württemberg. The Hohentwiel fortress ruins are located on the mountain. A special feature is the highest vineyard in Germany. The single vineyard Olgaberg (Lake Constance area) in the Baden wine-growing region is presumably named after the Russian Tsar's daughter Olga Nikolayevna Romanova (1822-1892), later wife of King Karl I of Württemberg (1823-1891). The terraced vineyard facing southeast to southwest at an altitude of up to 560 metres above sea level with a slope of 15 to 65% covers seven hectares of vineyards. The soil consists of porphyritic volcanic weathered rock with some tuff.Pinot Noir, for example, is cultivated here. The site is the sole property of the Meersburg State Wine Estate.
