The red grape variety originates from the border region Italy/Switzerland. Synonyms are Orion Gris, Oriou, Oriou Curare, Oriou Lombard, Oriou Petit Rouge, Oriou Picciou, Oriou Voirard, Picciou Rouge, Picciou Rouzo and Rouge du Valais.
