Orisi

The red grape variety (also Lorisi) originates from Italy. It comes from a presumably natural cross between Sangiovese x Montonico Bianco. The variety was rediscovered in the north-east of Sicily on the foothills of the Monti Nebrodi. Nothing is known about a possible relationship to the white variety Vespaiola (with synonym Orisi Bianca). The late-ripening vine yields tannic and acidic red wines. In 2016, however, no stock was reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
