Orsat

The wine production company Caves Orsat SA, headquartered in Martigny in the Swiss canton of Valais, was founded in 1874 by Alphonse Orsat. It remained a family business until 1932, when it was converted into a public limited company. In 1998 the share capital was taken over by the Rouvinez family, but an independent appearance was maintained. The company's own vineyards cover 30 hectares with, for example, the famous Clos Montibeux domain. Furthermore, grapes from around. 1.800 contract winegrowers with a total area of 318 hectares are purchased. About four million litres of wine are produced annually from 16 different grape varieties. There are five different product lines. The figurehead is "Primus Classicus", these wines come exclusively from our own vineyards. These are for example Chardonnay, Cornalin du Valais, Ermitage (Marsanne), Fendant (Chasselas), Johannisberg (Silvaner), Malvasia (Pinot Gris), Petite Arvine, Pinot Noir and Syrah. The flagship of the house is the Bordeaux-style red wine cuvée "Romulus", matured in barrique (over 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, with shares of Merlot and Petit Verdot).
