The red grape variety comes from Georgia, Synonyms are Argvetuli Sapere, Occhanuri Sapere, Othanuri Sapere, Otschanuri Sapere, Otskhanouri Sapere, Otskhanury Sapere, Otskhanwry Sapere, Otsxanuri Sapere, Sapere Otskhanuri and Sapere Otsxanuri. The parentage is unknown. The late ripening vine is generally resistant to many vine diseases. It produces deep dark, powerful red wines with aromas of forest fruits, cherries and wild grasses. The rare variety is grown in the Imeretia region in the central west of the country. In 2010, the acreage was six hectares (Kym Anderson ).
