The red grape variety originates from Georgia. Synonyms are Argvetuli Sapere, Occhanuri Sapere, Othanuri Sapere, Otschanuri Sapere, Otskhanouri Sapere, Otskhanury Sapere, Otskhanwry Sapere, Otsxanuri Sapere, Saperavi Ochanuri, Sapere Otskhanuri, Sapere Otsxanuri and Sapere Otzkhanouri. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. Nothing is known about a possible genetic relationship to the red variety Argvetula Sapere (with synonym Argvetuli Sapere) either. The late-maturing vine is generally resistant to many vine diseases. It yields deep dark, powerful red wines with aromas of wild berries, cherries and wild grasses. The rare variety is grown in the Imeretia region in the central west of the country. In 2016, six hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson statistics).

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
