Palas

The red grape variety (breeding number We 69-633-14F) is a new variety between Blauer Limberger (Blaufränkisch) x Rubintraube (Teinturier du Cher) according to DNA analyses published in 2012. The Trollinger (Schiava Grossa) indicated as the parent variety in the breeding list turned out to be incorrect. The cross was made in 1969 by grower Helmut Schleip and Bernd H. E. Hill at the Weinsberg Viticultural Institute (Württemberg). Plant variety protection was granted in 2002. Incidentally, the same parents also created the new Cabernet Mitos variety. The early-maturing vine is resistant to frost, but susceptible to both types of mildew. It produces dark-coloured red wines and is particularly suitable as a teinturier (colour enhancer) in cuvées. It is cultivated in the Baden, Palatinate and Rheinhessen regions. In 2018, five hectares of vineyards were designated in Germany with a downward trend (D STATIS).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
