There are two grape varieties named after the capital of Sicily:
The white grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Delago x Brilliant. It contains genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in the USA by Thomas Volney Munson (1843-1913). No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
This white grape variety (also known as Pastena 1588) is a new cross between Catarratto Bianco x Aglianico di Puglia. The cross was made in Italy by Bruno Pastena. No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
