The red grape variety originates from Italy; the name means "red foot" and derives from the red wood of the vine trunk. Synonyms are Palombina, Palombina Nera, Palumbina, Palumbina Nera, Palumbo, Palummina, Palummina Nera, Perepalummo, Piede Colombo (engl.
