Bird species (lat. Perdix perdix) from the order of the hen birds, which prefers to inhabit steppe and heath landscapes in large parts of Europe and Asia. Partridges feed mainly on seeds, wild herbs and cereal grains and also appear in autumn Schad birds in vineyards. In Italy is the label Occhio di Pernice and in France Oeil de perdrix (Partridge eye) common for the salmon red color of a rosé-like wine. This is derived from the crimson wax ring around the eyes (Rosenfeld). Some varietal names like Gamba Rossa (Gamba di Pernice) are derived from the bird's red feet.
