Paulée de Meursault

Traditional event in the Burgundian community of Meursault, held annually in the third week of November on the third day of the "Trois Glorieuses" (three glorious days) on a Monday. The auctions of the Hospices de Beaune also take place during this event. The custom is based on the tradition of a meal taken together after the grape harvest in the context of a harvest festival. The "paulée" is derived from the name of a frying pan (poile), because originally a simple meal was prepared "in a pot". The custom was revived in the 1920s by the Comte Jules Lafon. Hundreds of winegrowers come together, each one taking their best wine with them. Inspired by this, there is now also a "La Paulée de New York" and "La Paulée de San Francisco".
