The red grape variety is an open-pollinated seedling of the American vine Clinton. Thus, at least genes of Vitis riparia x Vitis labrusca are included. The hybrid was selected in 1870 by the private breeder J. H. Ricketts. It is used as a winepress and table grape. No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
