The white grape variety is a new breed between Roter Traminer ( Gewurztraminer ) x Müller-Thurgau, The breeding took place in 1927 at the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture in Würzburg by Georg Shy (1879-1949), who called it "Pearl of Alzey".
