Pecorello

The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Greco Bianco, Greco Bianco si Rogliano, Greco di Rogliano, Pecorello di Ciro, Pecorello di Monte Beltrano and Pecorello di Rogliano. The parentage is unknown. It should not be confused with the Greco Bianco or Pecorino varieties (with the synonym Pecorello di Rogliano), but nothing is known about a possible genetic relationship. The medium to late ripening vine has slightly reddish berries with a bluish tinge. The variety is mainly cultivated in Calabria, where it is permitted in the DOC wine Terre di Cosenza, among others. Small quantities are also found in the regions of Puglia, Molise and Veneto. In 2016, only 9 hectares of vines were reported in Italy, with a strong downward trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
