The white grape variety originates from Italy; the name means "peppercorn" and refers to the small, seedless berries. The parentage is unknown. The vine tends to be small-berried. It yields low-acid white wines that are blended with the varieties Biancolella and Falanghina Flegrea. The variety is grown in small quantities in the Costa d'Amalfi area in the Campania region. In 2016, 0.2 hectares of vines were recorded (Kym Anderson).
