The white grape variety (also Blanc de Saillon) is a new cross between Raffiat de Moncade x Chardonnay. The cross was made in 1954 on behalf of INRA at the Domaine de Vassal by the Basque Pierre Marcel Durquéty (1923-2016) in France. The early-ripening vine is resistant to botrytis, but tends to coulure. It yields a fruity, high-acid white wine. The variety is cultivated in south-western France in the department of Charente-Maritime and in the south in the department of Ayveron. In 2016, two hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson).
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
