Producer description of "Weingut August & Thomas Perll"

The winery is located in the municipality of Boppard in the German wine-growing region of the Middle Rhine. Its origins go back to the main house built in 1606. The traditional 400-year-old family winery was run as a sideline for a long time, and it was not until 1950 that August Perll completely converted the mixed agricultural business to viticulture. Today, the winery is run by his son Thomas, already the sixth generation of the family. A wine tavern is attached to the farm. The vineyards cover 7.5 hectares of vines in the Bopparder Hamm in the single vineyards Elfenlay, Fässerlay, Feuerlay, Mandelstein and Ohlenberg. They are 80% planted with Riesling, as well as the varieties Pinot Noir, Kerner, Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau and Scheurebe. Fermentation takes place with pure yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wines are vinified in the old vaulted cellar in equal parts dry, semi-dry and mild and bottled as early as possible. In years with suitable weather conditions, ice wines are also pressed. Around 55,000 wines are produced annually. Fine spirits (yeast, grape, pomace, wine, plum) are also distilled in the house distillery.
