Piece

For many centuries, the piece was one of the most commonly used measures or containers in Germany. Its volume varied considerably from place to place. According to various sources, it consisted of four to eight ohms, resulting in a volume of between around 600 and 1,200 litres. In Germany today, this type of cask, which is still in common use, is generally understood to be a 1,200 litre cask. However, there are also the variants three-piece with 3,600, double-piece with 2,400, half-piece with 600 and quarter-piece with 300 litres. There are also similar volumes for the Fuder.
