The French professor of geography René Pijassou (1922-2007) taught at the Université Michel de Montaigne de Bordeaux III, where he was director of the Institute de Géographie until 1990. He was considered a specialist of the Médoc, on which he carried out numerous studies and published books. These included Regards sur la révolution agricole en Dordogne (1967), Le Médoc - Un grand vignoble de qualité (1980), Le Médoc - Vignes et Vignerons (1990), Gruaud Larose - Le vin des rois, Le roi des vins (1997) and Château Palmer - Noblesse oblige (1997).
