Pipe

General term (German pipe, also pipa) for a wine barrel with tapered ends, which is available in many countries with different volumes. Pipe is one in the Anglo-American region Volume, or also a barrel type with a volume of 477.339 liters in England and 476.962 liters in the USA. There are various sizes in Portugal. For the storage and maturation of port wine in the Douro Valley is the traditional size 550 (picture), but there are also types between 580 and 630 liters. For port wine transport, types with 534.24 liters are used, which are divided into 21 Almudes with 25.44 liters.
