Pittnauer Gerhard

The winery is located in the municipality Gols in the Burgenland wine-growing region Lake Neusiedl (Austria). In the early 1990s, the company was taken over by Gerhard and Brigitte Pittnauer. The vineyards cover 18 hectares of vineyards in, for example, the vineyards Altenberg, Fuchsenfeld, Haidboden and Rosenberg. 95% of the red varieties St. Laurent, Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Welschriesling are cultivated. Gerhard Pittnauer is regarded as the Austrian specialist for St. Laurent, its leading grape variety. Since 2006 will be Biodynamic viticulture operated. The vines are planted at a high density of up to 7,000 per hectare. The trunk height is a maximum of 80 centimeters. Great emphasis is placed on an ideal ratio of grapes / leaf mass. The yield is limited to six grapes per hive.

The newly built "cellar" is a special feature, because from the delivery of the grapes, the vinification to filling and packaging all processing steps take place on the same level, so to speak on the ground floor. The harvest time is determined by analyzes of PH value, Acid and sugar content determined. Ultimately, however, the taste of ripe berries (biting, sucking, tasting) is decisive - that is, "experience and feeling". It is basically a spontaneous fermentation (without pure yeast) performed. The red wine mash is fermented in fermentation tanks made of stainless steel, in wooden fermentation stands made of oak and occasionally in open vats or in barriques. The mash is mixed by round pumping, spraying the pomace cake with the juice and pounding the mash marc,

After the malolactic fermentation, red wines are stored for an average of 16 months in medium toasted oak barrels at a temperature of between 10 and 16 ° C maximum. During the expansion, the evaporation fading is constantly being supplemented and the wine is sensory controlled. When bottling, the bottles are gently filtered, followed by several months of bottle aging until commercialization. The premium wines include several St. Laurent wines from different vineyards, Pannobile red (Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch ), Pinot Noir Reserve, as well as the cuvée white vines (Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc.) Every year, around 130,000 bottles of wine are produced Member of the winegrower associations Pannobile and Respect.
