The white grape variety comes from Greece. Synonyms are Platania and Platanos. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2011, there are close relationships with the varieties Katsano and Assyrtiko. However, the parentage (parenthood) is unknown. The early maturing, high-yielding vine is susceptible to botrytis. It produces white wines with aromas of lemon and orange. The variety is cultivated in the Cyclades (especially Santorini) and Crete. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (statistics Kym Anderson).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
