Plauelrain

single vineyard in the municipality of Durbach (Ortenau area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. The historic site covered only 17 hectares of vineyards and is the fillet piece. During the land consolidation in 1971, it was expanded to its current size. The vineyards, which face south to south-southeast (best parcels) and east to west-southwest, are 200 to 320 metres above sea level and have a slope of 40 to 85% (best parcels) and 20 to 60%. They are protected from cold north winds by a forest fringe. The granite weathered soils with fine soil interspersed with sand and stones are in places very shallow with rock at a depth of as little as 40 centimetres. There are even pure rock islands. The varieties cultivated here are Klingelberger (Riesling), Scheurebe, Clevner (Traminer), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Members of the Durbacher Winzergenossenschaft, as well as the wineries Laible Andreas and Männle Heinrich, for example, have shares in the site.
