The white grape variety originates from the border region Croatia/Slovenia. Synonyms are Debeli Klešec, Debeli Klešhic, Gelber Plavez, Plavac Žuti, Plavec, Plavec Rumeni, Plavec Sarga, Plavez Gelba, Plavez Giallo, Plavez Jaune and Rumeni Plavec. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. Despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarity, it must not be confused with the Plavay variety. The vine is resistant to downy mildew. It produces white wines with high acidity and low alcohol content, which are very suitable for sparkling wine production. It is also used as table grape. In Slovenia, it is approved for the PTP wine Cviček under the common name Plavec Rumeni. In 2016, 82 hectares of vineyards were designated here (Kym Anderson statistics).
